Strong Encryption - 09/01/02
Strong encryption support has been added in both the client and server. This means that your interaction over commune is protected from potential eavesdropping. I used Sun's SSL implementation (J2SSE) for this. Also fixed a bunch of bugs and made many usability improvements. Try out the latest nightly build :)

Binary Releases ! - 08/12/01
I have decided to make binary releases available. I spent the past two days finishing the New User Wizard, tweaking some small bugs and writing shell scripts to automatically build and package releases. One visible side effect of the new build system is the ""nightly" build, which is generated from CVS every night. This is far simpler than downloading the CVS tarball or even tracking the CVS repository since its all pre-compiled and packaged for you. Give it a whirl :)

Good news - 06/12/01
Have a permanent commune server running now, the client defaults to using it. After being pretty busy with other projects for the past 5 weeks or so, Im gonna get back to Commune and finish the final push to release. Check for an update soon...

Close to release - 22/10/01
OK; I'm getting close to the point where I think I can make a binary (ie user) release. I've been testing the client with friends and have removed overlooked bugs and made usability fixes. Main things I would like to implelement before releasing: New Account "Wizard" - current preferences dialogue is a bit daunting for new users. File transfer with VERY good firewall support (perhaps even tunneling over HTTP Proxies). Finally, I want to have a permanent commune server hosted somewhere; I have a number of options in that regard. I've posted some new screen shots too. Check back soon, or if you're feeling brave try a CVS tarball.
